The HVAC - Mechanical Technician will install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, chillers, and related mechanical equipment at Karbala Refinery. Requires a diploma in Mechanical Engineering or HVAC Technology.
Position: HVAC - Mechanical Technician Location : Karbala Refinery Job Type : Rotation 20-10 Salary : 2,000,000 - 2,250,000 IQD Key Responsibilities: • Install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, chillers, air handling units (AHUs), and related mechanical equipment. • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on compressors, pumps, fans, and heat exchangers. • Conduct leak detection, soldering, and brazing of copper pipes and fittings during installation and repair activities. • Diagnose mechanical and performance issues using measurement and diagnostic tools (pressure gauges, vacuum pumps, thermometers, etc.). • Inspect and replace defective parts such as motors, bearings, valves, and filters. • Maintain proper refrigerant handling and recovery procedures in compliance with environmental and safety standards. • Ensure all HVAC systems operate efficiently and meet operational requirements for refinery process areas and control rooms. • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, system schematics, and technical manuals. • Prepare maintenance and inspection reports, and update equipment service logs. • Follow all refinery safety, health, and environmental (HSE) policies and participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings. • Support other maintenance teams (electrical, instrumentation, or utilities) during shutdowns or major overhauls. Qualifications & Experience: • Education: Diploma or Technical Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Technology, or a related field. • Experience: Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of industrial HVAC systems, chillers, and AHUs (preferably in oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial settings). • Technical Skills: o Proficiency in soldering and connecting copper pipes and mechanical fittings. o Skilled in servicing compressors, pumps, fans, and other rotating equipment. o Competent in using measurement and diagnostic tools for HVAC performance testing. o Understanding of mechanical safety procedures, equipment isolation, and lockout/tagout practices. o Knowledge of refrigeration cycles, thermodynamics, and chiller operation principles.
