Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) - Aviation Facility Project Location: Erbil Governorate, Iraq Project: Design and Construction of a New Aviation Facility Job Description: We are seeking an experienced Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to manage and implement the safety program for the construction of a new New Aviation Facility. The SSHO will ensure that the project complies with all applicable safety regulations, including OSHA 29 CFR 1926 safety requirements, and will monitor all on-site activities to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment. Employment will be on a 1-year contract basis with possible renewal. Key Responsibilities: • Safety Management: Develop and enforce a comprehensive site-specific safety plan, which outlines the safety requirements for the project. Ensure all personnel are briefed and trained on the safety plan. • Submittals: Oversee the preparation and submission of safety-related submittals, including those required in Preconstruction Submittals such as the Safety Plan, Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA), Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and certifications for safety equipment. o Ensure that the Safety and Health Plan, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and Emergency Response Plans are submitted on time and receive government approval. • Safety Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular safety inspections of the construction site to ensure compliance with the approved safety plans. This includes ensuring that proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is used, fall protection systems are in place, and other required safety protocols are being followed. • Daily Safety Oversight: Act as the on-site safety officer, conducting daily safety briefings and toolbox talks with workers and subcontractors. Address any safety concerns immediately and report any incidents or near-misses. • Accident Prevention Program (APP): Manage the implementation of the project's Accident Prevention Program, ensuring that all workers are following the APP guidelines and that site conditions are always safe. • Hazard Mitigation: Identify potential safety hazards, implement controls, and ensure that AHAs are prepared and followed for all work activities. Regularly review AHAs and adjust them as project conditions evolve. • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate safety records, including inspection logs, incident reports, and training certifications. Submit all required documentation to the client. • Emergency Preparedness: Ensure that the site is prepared for emergencies, including fire, medical, and evacuation procedures. Coordinate with the project management team to implement emergency drills and verify that all workers are aware of emergency procedures. • Final Safety Closeout: Coordinate final safety inspections to ensure all safety measures are in place before the project is completed. Ensure the safety of the site as it transitions to operational status. Qualifications: • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO), with experience on military or aviation-related construction projects preferred. • Completed the OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Training and has a thorough understanding of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 safety requirements. • Experience in managing safety programs in compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 • Ability to prepare and manage safety-related submittals, including the Safety and Health Plan, AHAs, and SDS documentation. • Strong communication skills, with the ability to lead safety meetings, conduct training, and ensure team compliance. • Proven track record in hazard identification, risk management, and incident prevention. • Familiarity with UFC 1-200-01 DoD Building Code and safety requirements for construction projects • Fluent English communi…
